Anonymous Authentication
Any system requiring citizen participation — from voting to financial transactions — must solve the problem of participant identification. Traditional solutions rely on centralized certificate authorities, state registries, or trusted intermediaries. This creates points of control, vulnerabilities, and opportunities for manipulation.
The Challenge
Existing identification systems in peer-to-peer networks either reveal the participant’s identity or allow the possibility of double participation by the same person under different identifiers. Anonymity and uniqueness of identity were considered mutually exclusive requirements. No decentralized system could simultaneously guarantee that the participant is anonymous and that each real person is represented in the network by exactly one identifier.
The Solution
A mechanism of decentralized fully anonymous authentication has been developed, excluding double counting of a single person, without the involvement of certificate authorities. Each network participant is cryptographically unique — while their real identity is not revealed to other participants, network operators, or third parties. The mechanism does not require specialized biometrics, government documents, or trusted intermediaries.
